Pacifica High School has had an increase of cultural clubs on campus, one of the veterans of cultural clubs is Filipino Cultural Club, and had just turned 8 years old. Filipino Cultural Club, commonly known as FCC, is a club that emphasizes inclusivity, absolutely anybody and everybody is allowed to join the club.
One of the FCC’s goals is to spread Filipino culture in an environment that contains a small amount of Filipino representation. The club has been spreading the culture in their meetings by telling people about Filipino history, and other topics such as traditional Filipino clothing, traditional courting, along with some of the cabinet’s personal Filipino heritage. FCC has also shared the culture through a variety of socials for the club such as the Pamaypay social, this social was a collaboration with Pacifica’s Fashion club, and members had the opportunity to create Filipino fans. FCC has also been selling different types of Filipino foods at Pacifica’s food fest, the club has sold items such as ube crinkles, lumpia, pancit, and filipino spaghetti.
This year was one of the best years for the club, as it was able to maintain about 40 active members (which is double the amount of last years), host 15 meetings, and have a total of 10 socials in one term! This year would not have been possible without the current cabinet, along with the club’s advisors, Mrs. Zaks and Ms Chavez.
As this year comes to a close, the cabinet of FCC changes with the new upcoming year, at FCC’s end of the year banquet, the new cabinet was officially installed. The president of the 2023-2024 term, Kaitlin Lizaso, has passed the torch of president to the new club president for the 2024-2025 term to Anthony Buenavista. Hopefully FCC can keep up the good work and have many more great years to come!
