This was a great year for our Pacifica Tritons baseball team. They had one of their best seasons going 21-12-1 in all games, and 9-5 in league games. The Tritons faced tough opponents at the beginning of the season, but that did not deter them from putting in the work at practice and staying focused on the goal which was success in the post season. The Tritons began winning game after game. This led them to the playoffs where they had a great run, beating Santa Paula and Whittier Christian. They then played at home against Riverside Prep with the stands packed with family, friends. students, and teachers that were there to watch the Southern Section Division V Quarter-Finals. Our Tritons started off hot getting hit after hit, scoring five runs in the first inning. They cooled off a bit scoring only one more run in the third, but then scored three more in the fifth to total nine runs. Alex Villicana had a great outing on the mound pitching the whole game with only one run allowed in the third inning. Ending with a score of 9-1, our Tritons headed to the Semi-Finals. That game was against Santa Monica where they took a tough loss but they were given an opportunity to play for State Championship tournament. They did not let this chance slip and did everything they could to prepare for their upcoming games. Our Tritons started off strong playing a great game and winning 6-1 here at Fear the Fork Field against Village Christian. Next, they played an intense Semi-Final against Valhalla where they came out on top winning 6-4. This brought them back home to Fear the Fork Field where they played another very close game, this time Against University City’s Centurions. Alex Villicana started on the mound, pitching two great innings, keeping the Centurions at zero runs. Then Ricky Garcia came into the game in the third inning to relieve Villicana. Our Tritons opened the score to 1-0 in the 5th inning with an RBI from JJ Carmona. Ricky Garcia went back out onto the mound with the lead but he let up a run in the sixth. He finished the inning with only the one run scoring which tied the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the sixth Devon Wilkes came up to bat and crushed the ball to center field hitting the go-ahead home run. Alex Villicana came back in to close the game, shutting down University City’s offense, ending the game and season as State Champions.
