“Split” tells the story of a man who has disociative identity disorder. Kevin (played by James McAvoy) has 23 other personalities in his head, ranging from a psychopath, cross dresser, and many more. One of his personalities, Dennis, kidnaps teenagers and keeps them in a cellar in his home. In the beginning of the film, Dennis kidnaps 3 girls: Claire, Marcia, and Casey (played by Haley Lu Richardson, Jessica Sula, and Anya-Taylor Joy). Dennis proceeds to bring them to the home, and locks them in a cell. Upon waking up in the cell, Claire, Marcia, and Casey try to figure out what is going on. They are soon introduced to Patricia, Kevin’s cross dresser personality. The girls think of plans to subdue Dennis upon learning about Kevin’s disorder.

This movie was a psychological  thriller. There wasn’t a moment I where I got bored at all. McAvoy as Kevin really blew me away, he is such a versatile actor. His acting skills have grown exponentially since the days of “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” My favorite persona of him was Dennis. Dennis was very mysterious and creepy, and his character really set the tone of the movie. When it comes to “the Beast,” I was creeped out. This movie went to psychological thriller to horror movie in a matter of minutes. When it comes to the teen actors, they were amazing as well. Richardson, Sula, and Taylor played their parts respectively. These actresses really showed their innocence and morality against Kevin.

All in all, Split was an exquisite movie. If you want to watch a movie that’ll put you to the edge of your seat, this movie will do the job just right.
